Public Art and the Real Estate Transfer Tax in Breckenridge, Colorado
|
The Breckenridge Public Art Commission is devoted to developing a diverse public art collection, exposing the community to the arts, fostering educaitonal programs and advancing economic growth.
In addition to building the Town's permanent collection, the Breckenridge Public Art Commission hosts the annual Sculpture on the BLue Outdoor Sculpture Show and curates the gallery in the lobby of the Breckenridge Theatre.
The Breckenridge Public Art Commission also has an active donoro program where sculptures may be donated to the permanent collection and maintained by the Commission.
The Breckenridge Public Art Commission is composed of seven members. Commissioners are appointed by the Town Council for three-year terms.
Donor Program The donor program is intended to provide additional avenues to grow the permanent collection. Several pieces have already been donated and located in prominent locations throughout the town. It is the desire of the Breckenridge Public Art Commission to develop sculpture gardens around town tht would otherwise not be possible without private support.
Funding Funding for Public Art is budgeted through revenue generated from the Real Estate Transfer Tax as the Town believes the public art enriches the community and enhances the aesthetic experience in Breckenridge.
Sculpture on the Blue Sculpture on the Blue is located within the Blue River Plaza, along the Riverwalk nd on the lawn near the Riverwalk center.
This rotating outdoor sculpture show provides a vibrant sculptural garden for visitors and the community to enjoy throughout the summer in Breckenridge. Sculpture on the Blue also provides great visibility for participating artists. The subject matter and materials for sculptures are intended to be broad, giving viewers an opportunity to experience a variety of sculptural styles and to allow artists the freedom of expression. Sceulptures that invite public interaction are encouraged.
